Our Clubs
The West Boathouse has been home to Clyde and Clydesdale Amateur Rowing Clubs since it was built in 1905, and they are now joined by Strathclyde University Boat Club. It has also hosted Glasgow Schools Rowing Club and Glasgow University Boat Club at various points in its long history.
The clubs have distinct, separate histories but these stories are inevitably intertwined, at least in part due to their shared home. Each has retained their unique identities and against the odds, have managed to survive where other clubs have fallen by the wayside or merged. Our A-Z of Rowing on the Clyde gives an expanded history of each club and many others based on the river.
Over the years, the clubs have nurtured a wealth of talent, including Olympians and World Champions such as Gillian Lindsay, Karen Bennett, Ali Watt, Imogen Walsh and Polly Swann. In addition to supporting up and coming athletes, the resident clubs are committed to widening access to rowing and offer opportunities for all ages and abilities, and beginners and taster sessions.
