Up the Watter
On Sunday the 14th May, 2023 we officially reopened the West Boathouse with a big party. Kicking off in the morning at the Cuningar Loop, The Conservation Volunteers ran a guided nature walk for families, while the rowing clubs gathered a small flotilla of boats together for a procession upriver. The lead boat - an 'eight' - featured representatives from all the West Boathouse clubs and was carrying a specially commissioned new flag for the building. The flag was created by artist Fiona Fleming, who worked with participants from the Glasgow Disability Alliance on a design that celebrated the rebirth and renewal of the River Clyde. A heritage walk along the river's north bank, led by local historian Peter Mortimer, followed the boats as they made their way downstream, back to the boathouse.

Back on Glasgow Green
Back on Glasgow Green, community brass band, Brass Aye? and members of the G5 Kids Choir assembled on St Andrew's Suspension Bridge, awaiting the arrival of the flotilla. This landward procession grooved along to meet the boats at the pontoon. The flag was then presented to the goddess of the River Clyde, Clota (played by Julia Anne MacDonough) and poet Carla Woodward read a 'Promise to Clota' written specially for the event.
